Log on - comms
Networking - by John Bricknell, Course Director, BriMap Training
'Most people associate the word technology with the pain and anguish of stuff that doesn't work. But without it we would all be dead - no technology, no nothing. We cannot support six billion people on this spaceship without technology. Just switch off the telecoms network alone and in a trice there would be no electric power, clean water, sewage disposal, transport and logistics. Within a month populations would be starving and within a year an estimated three billion people would be dead.' (A distinguished industry commentator) When considering a career after leaving the Services, many people think about communications as a prime area to work in but are relatively unsure as to what it covers or how to equip themselves with the necessary skills to meet the job requirements. The communications market is broadly divided into two parts:
telecoms - dealing with telephones and similar communications systems
