An opportunity has arisen for a full time permanent position within the catering team. The successful candidate will work within a team of catering prison officers within a multi-disciplinary framework.

Key Aspects of the role

• To instruct and oversee the daily workload of prisoners, ensuing meal production and timescales are met.
• To support prisoners in achieving their NVQ 1+2 Catering by offering advice and sharing job related skills
• Ensure all food is prepared and handled in accordance with relevant guidelines.
• Help maintain efficient and secure systems for the receipt, storage and issue of foods and provisions and maintain documents related to these systems.

• Complete relevant daily paperwork
• Ensure all requests for maintenance of plant and equipment are processed efficiently
• Ensure kitchen prisoners comply with cleaning procedures and stock rotation.
• Ensure kitchen prisoners adhere to Kalyx Health and Safety Procedures and The Food Safety Act 1990
• To instruct and oversee the daily workload of prisoners
• Ensure meal production and timescales are met

• Assist in achieving the department’s budget

• Submit new menu ideas as required
• Ensure prisoners’ wear protective clothing at all times whilst working in the kitchen.

Skills/Experience Required

• Suitable qualification (City & Guilds 7061/7062 or equivalent NVQ qualification)
• To be experienced in bulk catering/catering for large numbers.
• Ability to use own initiative and work autonomously.
• Ability to prioritize tasks.
• Good organizational skills.
